Year 10 mixed rounders tournament.
On Wednesday 8th July, a group of 13 year 10 pupils took part in the tournament at Frenford sports ground. They played matches against all the other 6 teams and enjoyed the afternoon improving their skills and scoring lots of rounders. Their behaviour and good sportsmanship was excellent and they were a credit to Valentines High School.

Cleveland Dance Festival
On Thursday 2nd July a dance festival took place in the evening at Cleveland Junior School. As Cleveland is one of our family of schools, Valentines were invited as guests to perform a dance at the festival.
A group of 7 year 8,9 and 10 girls took part and rehearsed hard to perform to their best. They represented Valentines well with an excellent performance.
It was also really nice to join together with the younger pupils at Cleveland and all enjoy watching each others dances.
Well done to all of you and thank you for giving up your time in the evening to attend the event.

Athletics Club
Throughout the summer term a large number of pupils from all year groups have been enjoying attending athletics club on Tuesdays after school run by Paul Cheal from Ilford Athletics Club and the PE teachers. Paul has spotted many pupils with talent and these pupils have been encouraged to go to training at his club. All pupils have enjoyed the sessions and have improved their performances.
If you would like a leaflet about the club please help yourself to one - they are on the table outside the PE office.
Excellent attendance will be rewarded by JD vouchers as promised, so well done to the 9 pupils that achieved this.

Year 5 Athletics Competition
On Tuesday 16th June, a lovely sunny afternoon, 90 year 5 pupils from our family of schools, Cleveland Juniors, Christchurch Primary and Uphall Primary came together at Valentines for an athletics event. The event was run by the year 7 young leaders who each had a year 10 partner to help with the scoring and efficient running of the activity. Also the 2 new sports ambassadors from year 9 were at the event helping out. It was a really enjoyable event and it was nice to see pupils of all ages working together to produce a fun and enjoyable afternoon of sport. Lots of pupils went home proudly wearing medals and everyone received a certificate. Well done everyone.

Year 9 Mixed Rounders Competition
On Wednesday 17th June 28 year 9 boys and girls took part in the rounders competition. Also, as the event was organised by Valentines, the 2 year 12 sports ambasadors came along to help with the smooth running of the event. It was really great for Valentines as we had so many pupils taking part, all of whom worked with effort and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon. There were many moments of great play, brilliant catches and huge hits and everyone improved as the afternoon went on. Valentines did very well and came 3rd, 4th and 5th in the competition. Well done to everyone.

Sports Ambassadors
Once again, as in previous years, 2 new sports ambassadors have been selected by the PE department to represent Valentines at events and sporting activities within the school and also within the London Borough of Redbridge. This year the 2 representatives are from year 9 and they were chosen due to their keen enthusiasm for sport as well their ability to communicate well, lead and motivate others, and generally promote sport both in school and in the borough.
I am sure you are keen to know who the 2 sports ambassadors are! Look at the noticeboards in the sports hall and you will see their photos!

Athletics Club
Athletics club is held every Tuesday after school from 3.30 -4.30pm. Boys and girls from all year groups are welcome and we are especially lucky to have Paul Cheal of Ilford Athletics Club running the sessions with the PE department helping out too. Many pupils have already attended the club which has been running since easter but new members are always welcome. You could come along and practice for sports day or for the athletics championships at Ashton Playing Fields. See you there soon

Young Leaders Award - 2009
Once again a group of year 7 pupils have been selected to follow a course in becoming a young leader. This year, 14 pupils are involved in developing their leadership and communication skills throughout the summer term by leading a variety of sporting activities. At present they are preparing for an athletics festival on Tuesday 16th June, when 90 year 5 pupils from Cleveland Juniors, Christchurch Primary and Uphall Primary will come to Valentines to take part in the event. Everyone is looking forward to this exciting afternoon of sport.

Netball League Finals

Netball League Finals

The netball teams at Valentines have had a very successful season. Out of 6 teams, 4, by winning all or most of their games, were successful in reaching the netball league finals. These teams were year 8,9,10 and 11.
On Monday 23rd March and Wednesday 25th March the finals took place at Valentines High School, organised by Mrs Dunn.
The wind was blowing furiously and rain kept threatening but all players battled on and Valentines were the winners of the league final with ALL 4 TEAMS!!
Year 8 beat Oaks Park - 15 - 13
Year 9 beat Beal - 22 - 6
Year 10 beat Wanstead - 13 - 10 and
Year 11 beat Woodford - 12 - 8

District Cross Country Championships

11 Year 7 pupils took part in the cross country at Wanstead Park this afternoon and we had a variety of results. It was great to see pupils pushing themselves hard to perform in such a competitive event. Well done all.

Junior Sports Leaders
The sports leaders have all been working hard this term to pass their Level 1 in Sports Leadership.
They have enjoyed leading pupils from local junior schools and on Tuesday 10th March, the Tuesday group paid a visit to Uphall Primary to lead a group of year 5 pupils in small game situations.
They were very well prepared and, in spite of the bad weather, they led their games with confidence and enthusiasm.
The afternoon was a success. Well done to all the leaders.

Girls Football

Valentines High School have had a football coach in to coach girls in years 7, 8 and 9. She has been coaching them in variety of skills and game play. The girls love it, they are now out on the new astro turf after being in the sports hall for a few weeks. They are playing with a variety of different year groups so friendships have been created and the pupils are really enjoying themselves. If any one else wants to attend the club they are more than welcome. Its on Monday lunchtimes. Hopefully see more of you there.

Sports Leaders.
On Tuesday 3rd March and Thursday 5th March, the year 11 sports leaders planned, organised and led a circuit of 6 stations and 2 fitness tests for a small group of year 8 pupils. They ran their sessions very well, showing good organisational skills and they motivated their pupils to work hard and produce their best performance. The year 8 pupils enjoyed the session and overall it was a very successful afternoon.
Well done to both sports leaders and year 8.

Year 9 Basketball

Year 9 have had an excellent basketball season this year and remain undefeated in the league. They are at the top of the table and have been working and training hard to play to the best of their abilities. They then defeated teams from the league above in their route through the cup and only got beaten by Chadwell heath in the cup semi final. Well done boys I look forward to next year and more success!

On Wednesday 11th February, a group of year 8,9 and 10 girls took part in the Dance Festival at Woodford County High School. A large number of junior schools and secondary schools took part in the event and everyone enjoyed the wide range of interesting performances during the afternoon. Well done to Valentines for an excellent performance.

Street Dance Club
A new group of pupils have signed up for the street dance club which is running again for 8 weeks on Tuesday's after school in the dance studio, starting on Tuesday 20th January.
All are looking forward to the sessions run by Antony, a professional street dance coach.

Indoor Rowing Competition
On Wednesday 14th January a group of 11 pupils from Year 7 through to sixth form, took part in the Indoor Rowing Competition at King Solomon High School. Each competitor had to row an individual race and all worked extremely hard to achieve their best position. Two pupils achieved medals which was excellent. Finally there was a team race which was very exciting as each team member had to leap onto the rowing machine as the previous person got off!!!

Multi Skills Festivals

The year11 sports leaders ended their course this week by organising and leading multi skills festivals for year 4 pupils from the Valentines family of schools.
Festivals took place on Tuesday 25th November and on Thursday 27th November and in total 110 pupils enjoyed an exciting and action packed afternoon of races involving a variety of skills plus a fun relay.
All pupils went home with certificates and some with medals too.
A number of visiting teachers remarked on how good the sports leaders were.

Rugby Coaches at Valentines

A group of very lucky year 7 and 8 pupils were able to enjoy coaching in rugby by experts from Wanstead rugby club. The session involved lots of pratices followed by an exciting game situation. The boys worked hard and enjoyed the session and it was nearly pitch dark when they finished. The coaching will last for 4 weeks in total and hopefully some boys will be keen to join Wanstead rugby club at the end of the course.
